On April 26, 1915, on the second day of the defense of Ertuğrul Cove, Sergeant Yahya reached the 26th Regiment Headquarters near Alçıtepe village with the company soldiers under his command, although he was slightly injured in his leg. Sergeant Yahya could not stay away from the front despite the advice of his commanders in order to stay back and receive full treatment, and returned to the fighting after a short treatment. He was seriously injured during a bayonet attack in the 3rd Battle of Kirte on June 4, 1915, and was taken to the hospital in Eceabat, but he fell a martyr there on June 5, 1915. The heroes of Ertuğrul Cove, especially Sergeant Yahya from Ezine, are commemorated at the monument built in Ertuğrul Cove for the martyrs and veterans.
