Commemoration Program for Martyr Lieutenant Colonel Hüseyin Avni Bey

On the morning of April 25, 1915, when the Company Commander Captain Hüseyin Bey, who resisted the enemy soldiers trying to land in Ertuğrul Cove near Seddülbahir village, was seriously injured, the most senior non-commissioned officer, Sergeant Yahya , took command. Sergeant Yahya stopped the British force, consisting of 3 thousand soldiers, on the beach with 67 soldiers under his command, with mauser fires that lasted for 32 hours, and prevented the invasion forces from taking off, inflicting heavy losses. The victorious name of the Arıburnu defense, Martyr Lieutenant Colonel Hüseyin Avni Bey, Commander of the 57th Infantry Regiment, is commemorated at his grave on the day he fell a martyr.
