4th Battalion Parade Ground Cemetery

Audio Guide

The cemetery can be accessed via a 300 m walkway from the main road. Vehicles are not permitted on the road. The cemetery of the Allies, whose construction started during the time of the battles and that reached its current condition in 1919, takes its name from the 4th Australian Battalion that landed in April and fought until June. A total of 116 soldiers (3 British, 107 Australians and 6 unknown soldiers) are interred here. Most of the dead are from the first group of soldiers from the battles in May. Colonel Henry N. Mac Laurin, Commander of the 1st Australian Brigade, was shot by a Turkish sniper on April 27 and is buried on the western slope of the Maclaurin's Hill.
