The cemetery, located to the east of the way from Maclaurin's Hill to Chunuk Bair, was built in 1919 after the armistice over the front line formed by the AIF 1st Division Commander Major F.J. Kindon at noon on April 25, 1915. The Turkish name of the location is “Kılıçbayırı”.
A major strategic location of the Anzac region after Chunuk Bair, Baby 700 was a scene of close combat. The 27th and 57th Regiments fought heroically against the 3rd Australian Division and suffered heavy losses. The front, passing into other hands on the first day, was finally captured by the Turks and held until the end of the war.
The location was named Big 700 or Battleship Hill to distinguish it from hills of similar altitudes. This rectangular-shaped cemetery faces toward the southwest, and measures 34 by 33 m, has a length of 180 m and covers an area of 1,122 m². There are 493 Commonwealth soldiers interred at this cemetery.
