No.2 Outpost Cemetery

This cemetery is located 150 m from the north side of Fisherman’s Hut to the east of Anzac-Suvla road and at the outskirts of Şapka Tepe (No: 2 Outpost Hill). The trail into the cemetery separates toward the east from the main road 75 meters to the north of Fisherman’s Hut. The trail later reconnects to the main road after crossing from the cemetery.

Four separate cemeteries were added to the cemetery built during the occupation. The square-shaped cemetery has a side length of 26.5 m and covers an area of 702.25 m². It can be accessed by the wooden gate on the west side. The monumental cross located behind views the sea directly. Most of the cemetery stones, formed of six rows in parallel to the road, are unmarked.

The Australian soldiers who were killed on the first day of the landing are interred at this cemetery. Seven Australians, 3 Britons, and 32 New Zealanders whose detachments are unknown, are interred at the cemetery. A special memorial was erected in memory of the 29 Australians, 17 Britons and 2 New Zealanders believed or known to have fallen here.
