Captain (Corps of Engineers) Tahir Bey Memorial

The memorial is located across from the 32nd Naval Air Defense Battery Command of Kilitbahir on the sea side of the road. The Captain (Corps of Engineers) Tahir Bey Memorial was erected in memory of Captain Tahir Bey and four marines (who were martyred) that sailed across the sea on May 15, 1915. Empty shells are displayed on both sides of the monument’s base. 

The following was inscribed on the monolith of the Memorial: On May 15th, 1915, Captain Tahir Bey and 4 marines hit a mine and were martyred while on duty and sailing on a sandal in the strait. The incident was dated 9 May, 1915 at another source and the incident was reported to have happened due to a mine or enemy shells.
