Kesikdere (Mule Valley) Martyrs’ Cemetery

Audio Guide
Virtual Trip

This cemetery is located in the valley to the right of the cemetery of the 57th Regiment. It can be accessed by a graded way formed from granite blocks. This cemetery was not built over the site of the original cemetery, which was located on the western slope of the Mortar Ridge across from the existing martyrs’ cemetery. The names of the 1,115 martyrs of the 27th, 57th, 18th and 64th Regiments who fought in this region are recorded at this symbolic martyrs’ cemetery. This area featured some of the closest opposing trenches of the war. Due of this proximity, soldiers were interred at the spot where they died. The entire valley is known as a martyrs’ cemetery. The cemetery was erected by the Governor’s Office of Kocaeli in memory of the 27th, 57th, 18th and 64th Brigades in 2006
