Audio Guide

This cemetery is composed of the last two graves at the entrance to the village. The first grave is that of First Lieutenant Hasan Tahsin of Bolu from the artillery regiment of 7th Division. First Lieutenant Hasan Tahsin was wounded during the clashes in the region of Sedd el Bahr. He later came to this area and joined the 2nd Battle of Anafartalar. The First Lieutenant was martyred at Kayacıkağılı during the fighting. The regiment mufti, who died the same day during the battles, was buried near First Lieutenant Hasan Tahsin.

The religious officials involved in the Dardanelles Campaign rendered major functions. Spending time with the soldiers and standing shoulder to shoulder against the enemy, these officials were on the front line to revive moral values or to help rally together the scattered troops. In his memoirs, Hans Kannengiesser told the following: “The imams are wonderful people; if officers die, they take the command; even the command of the battalion”. The imams joining the soldiers at the front not only withstood the challenges of the war, but also played a key role in winning the war by rendering services such as burials, reading and writing letters, praying, and speaking with the wounded.
