Shell Green Cemetery

Audio Guide

The 1 km road used by the Allies during the battles to proceed downwards from the entrance of the Lone Pine Cemetery to access the coast from Lone Pine extends to the Shell Green Cemetery. Until the end of August, Arıburnu was silent in the aftermath of the landing operation of April 25, 1915. However, the region faced severe battles during the night assault of May 19. The cemetery reached its current condition in 1919 with the merger of the 4 minor cemeteries built during the landing at Anzac Cove. There are 408 Australians and 1 British soldier interred at the cemetery, which is also where soldiers who died in the early days of the land battles were buried.
