Walker’s Ridge Cemetery

Audio Guide

The name of this cemetery comes from the Infantry Division Lieutenant General Harold Bridgwood Walker. The cemetery is comprised mostly of burials from 1915 at the linking point of Walker’s Ridge with Russel’s Top on the eastern side. The ridgeway ending at the end of the cliffs offers beautiful views like Mule Gully and Sphinx. The cemetery, having a rectangular shape of 17 by 30 m, was divided into two plots to represent the original cemetery separated by a trench. The open-air section of the cemetery is oriented towards Walker’s Ridge and the sea. The graves of 49 New Zealanders, 30 Australians and 1 Briton, as well as the graves of 12 unknown soldiers are present in the cemetery.
