One of the original cemeteries of the Gallipoli Peninsula, Kireçtepe Gendarmes Cemetery is located at the top of Kapanca Hill and was created during the battle. Kireçtepe Gendarmes Memorial is situated near the graves by placing blank artillery shells over an old stone. This memorial is encircled by a low-pitched wall. The epitaphs bear Ottoman inscriptions. This memorial represents one of three memorials erected on the peninsula in memory of the Turkish defense after the retreat of foreign forces. The memorial and the cemetery were repaired in 1996 by the Gendarmerie of Eceabat. Colonel Mustafa Kemal came to visit the cemetery during the war and congratulated the Gendarmerie troops on their courage. Another memorial situated at this location is the Kireçtepe Monolith designed by Architect Ahmet Gülgönen. The following is inscribed on the stone-clad monolith erected in 1985 at the east end of the cemetery:
“Between the 6th and 8th of August 1915 three companies of the heroic Gallipoli and Bursa Gendarme Battalions stopped English forces, which consisted of two Brigades on Karakoldağı and Kireçtepe, and successfully defended the northern flank of the Anafarta front”
